BWRT (Brain Working Recursive Therapy)

Brain Working Recursive Therapy — using natural psychological processes to retrain response patterns that no longer serve you.

A serene, uncluttered space for reflection

What is it?

Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT) is a structured approach that works with the way the brain forms automatic responses. Many of our reactions — a surge of anxiety, a fearful response, a habit we can’t seem to break — begin before we’re consciously aware of them.

BWRT works with that natural process. Rather than spending long periods analysing the past, it focuses on helping the brain build a new, more useful response to a familiar trigger, so that calmer and more helpful reactions can become the new default.

With BWRT, you don’t necessarily need to go into every detail of a painful experience for the work to help — which many people find reassuring.

How it works in sessions

  1. Identify the triggerWe pinpoint the specific situation or feeling that sets off the unwanted response.
  2. Understand the responseWe clarify exactly how the reaction shows up for you — in thought, feeling and body.
  3. Build a new responseUsing BWRT’s structured process, we help the brain rehearse a preferred way of responding.
  4. ReinforceWe check and strengthen the change so that it holds in real-life situations.

It can help with

  • Anxiety, panic and fearful responses
  • Phobias and specific fears
  • Unwanted habits and repetitive patterns
  • Responses linked to past distressing experiences
