What is it?
Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT) is a structured approach that works with the way the brain forms automatic responses. Many of our reactions — a surge of anxiety, a fearful response, a habit we can’t seem to break — begin before we’re consciously aware of them.
BWRT works with that natural process. Rather than spending long periods analysing the past, it focuses on helping the brain build a new, more useful response to a familiar trigger, so that calmer and more helpful reactions can become the new default.
With BWRT, you don’t necessarily need to go into every detail of a painful experience for the work to help — which many people find reassuring.
How it works in sessions
- Identify the triggerWe pinpoint the specific situation or feeling that sets off the unwanted response.
- Understand the responseWe clarify exactly how the reaction shows up for you — in thought, feeling and body.
- Build a new responseUsing BWRT’s structured process, we help the brain rehearse a preferred way of responding.
- ReinforceWe check and strengthen the change so that it holds in real-life situations.
It can help with

- Phobias and specific fears
